Irish Blessing

This poem is a very old traditional verse from Ireland in which the narrator hopes that their friends enjoy good fortune after his or her death. The poem expresses a belief that they will not be parted forever. There are several other similar poems from Ireland, but this is the most famous one. This poem is religious, but can be read at anyone’s funeral, especially for a good friend or partner.

Irish Blessing

May the roads rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rains fall soft upon fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
